Dirty Chilli Fries

Jump to Recipe

Step up your chilli game and swap rice for fries! Delicious homemade oven-baked fries, crispy on the outside with soft, melt in the mouth potato on the inside, topped with either Chilli Con Carne or Vegetarian Lentil Chilli with Black Beans, Sweetcorn and Chickpeas. Make them ‘really dirty’ and add further toppings which bring more flavours, nutrients, textures and colour! ABSOLUTELY!

If you are in a hurry, you could even buy some take away chips and then top with your delicious choice of homemade chilli.

You can either plate up your fries on a large serving platter, load up and serve so everyone can help themselves or you can simply lay all the options on the table and let everyone pick their own toppings. This is certainly how we do it – with a non-cheese eating carnivore and a vegetarian in the house, we all choose a different chilli let alone different toppings!

How to make Dirty Fries

Collect all your ingredients together:

Suggested toppings:

  • guacamole or slices of or smashed avocado
  • salsa or chopped tomatoes
  • sour cream
  • grated cheese – I use mature cheddar
  • chopped coriander
  • sliced red chilli
  • lime wedges

Assemble the Dirty Fries:

  1. Prepare your fries. See here for the recipe.
  2. A few minutes before your fries are ready, heat your chosen chilli.
  3. Prepare any toppings for your Dirty Fries – such as grating some cheese, chopping coriander and/or fresh chillis, smashing avocado and chopping tomatoes.
  4. When the fries are ready, all you need to do is top with your chosen chilli and then add your prepared toppings.
Scatter over some chopped coriander

Adding cheese?

The Dirty Chilli Fries above were for my cheese phobic husband. If you want to add cheese, I recommend you layer like this:

  1. fries immediately followed by cheese
  2. chilli
  3. more cheese
  4. Additional toppings – chopped tomatoes, chopped avocado, sour cream, chopped coriander – whatever takes your fancy
  5. Maybe a final sprinkle of cheese!

This way you can enjoy the cheese at different stages of melting – oh yum, yes please!!

Just fries and chilli – still fabulous!

You don’t always need to add the additional toppings, sometimes we just fancy plain fries and chilli

Chips and Beer!

We particularly enjoy a glass (or 2) of beer with Dirty Chilli Fries

Recipe – quantities

Please note that I have not put any quantities in the recipe – it can therefore be made for any number of people. The amount of fries, chilli and toppings each person will choose can vary dramatically, so it is up to you!
