Give someone a ‘hug in a mug’ this Christmas with these fabulous Chocolate Cakes designed to be stirred together and cooked in a mug in the microwave in just one minute!

Sometimes you need a delicious, light and fluffy chocolate flavoured sponge loaded with chocolate chips served with cream, ice cream or as is, and you need it now! This single serving cake is mixed in a minute and cooked in 2 minutes. With the threat of new Covid restrictions this Christmas, we might be needing this sooner rather than later!

How to make Chocolate Cake in a Mug Gifts

Collect together the equipment and ingredients:

• 15g/1 tablespoon and ½ teaspoon plain/all-purpose flour
• 2g/1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa
• ⅛ teaspoon instant coffee powder
• 7g/½ tablespoon sugar – caster, granulated or brown sugar
• ⅛ teaspoon baking powder
• pinch of fine salt
• 15g/2 – 3 teaspoons chopped chocolate

You will also need:

• 1 x microwave safe coffee or tea mug
• 1 plastic bag
• cellophane and ribbon
• instructions

How to make these fabulous gifts:

1. Weigh all the ingredients into the plastic bag. Remove as much air from the bag as possible and seal.
2. Place inside the mug.
3. Wrap the whole mug in cellophane and tie with ribbon.
4. Don’t forget to add cooking instructions to give with the gift. To find the instructions, go to the recipe at bottom of this post. How to make your delicious Chocolate Cake in a Mug

You will need:

• 1 x Chocolate Cake in a Mug Gift
• 1 tablespoon and 1 teaspoon milk
• 1½ teaspoons sunflower or vegetable oil

To serve:

• ice cream, cream or custard
• a drizzle of chocolate, sprinkles or chopped nuts

How to make this super fast ‘hug in a mug’:

1. Tip out the contents of the bag into the mug and stir well.
2. Add the oil and milk.
3. Stir to thoroughly mix.
4. Cook in the microwave on high for 1 minute. Leave to sit for a further minute before eating.
5. To serve: sprinkle with icing sugar and eat either as is or with your choice of serving options, such as cream, ice cream, sprinkles, a drizzle of chocolate, chopped nuts.
6. NB Please note that the power in microwave ovens varies. You may find that you need to alter timings to suit your oven. My microwave is 1000 watts on high and it takes exactly 1 minute, plus 1 minute standing, to cook this cake.
